In January, FCA promised to unveil a new ultimate performance halo car, the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, during the New York Auto Show week in April.
We’ve already shown you the first seven teasers, titled Cage, Reduction, Body, Crate, Forced Induction, Multiplication, and Third Law. Now, here’s the eighth, Race-Hardened Parts, which explains how the Demon's driveline is upgraded to handle increased loads.
More specifically, the propeller shaft, half shafts, and differential housing have all been upgraded to increase torque capacity by 15%-30%. Also, in a first for a factory production car, the SRT Demon’s Launch Assist uses the wheel speed sensors to watch for signs that the tires are slipping/sticking.
As for the driver, there is a new 4-point harness bar, available through Speedlogix, for use while at the track. The rear seat is deleted and mounting points are made accessible, making it easy for customers to install the bar without cutting or drilling anything.
