Sporty yet seductive

The Nissan Maxima was named 2018 Full-Size Car of the Year during the 2018 Auto123.com Awards ceremony, held this past November 22nd in Toronto. It beat out the two other finalists in the category, the Toyota Avalon and the Chrysler 300.

Offered starting at $36,990, the 2018 Maxima comes in four different incarnations: SV, SL, SR and Platinum. This is a large sedan you actually want to drive… and not just enjoy while relaxing in the back! It’s powered by an outstanding 3.5L V6 producing 300 hp and 261 lb-ft of torque, while the available sport suspension gives it nimble agility on winding roads. For those who rate smoothness above sportiness, the CVT transmission works very well and reduces highway consumption to 7.8L/100 km.

Among the standard equipment included in the 2018 Nissan Maxima, of note are heated and leather-covered seats and steering wheel, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, back-up camera and the NissanConnect system with navigation and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

Also noteworthy is the Maxima’s winsome design, which reflects the audacious approach taken by its maker, a rare thing in the category. Thumbs up to the new grille, headlamps and roof line in back.

What Nissan has to say about its Maxima…

“As the flagship of Nissan's popular sedan lineup, Maxima sets the standard for style, performance and technology. It’s called the Four-Door Sports Car for a reason. Its power-to-weight ratio is better than most competitors. Meanwhile, Maxima’s luxurious interior features available quilted, Italian-made Alcantara—a material that’s usually reserved for the highest of high-end performance cars. Pair that with front Zero Gravity seats, designed to help provide a natural driving posture and help take pressure off your lower back, and you’ve got yourself unmatched interior comfort.”
