RAM introduced its all-new 2019 RAM 1500 Tradesman this week at the “The Work Truck Show” in Indianapolis, Indiana, put on by the National Truck Equipment Association (NTEA).
Aimed squarely at consumers – individuals, entrepreneurs and companies - needing a utilitarian workhorse, the 1500 Tradesman edition will come in two cab configurations and two bed lengths – Quad Cab with long bed, Crew Cab with short bed and Crew Cab with available long bed.
As for the powertrain, buyers will be able to choose between the standard 3.6L Pentastar V6 equipped with a mild hybrid system and a 5.7L HEMI V8; either model can be had in 4x2 or 4x4 versions.
Overall weight has been pared down for the 2019 model thanks to new high-strength steel for certain components. But while the new RAM 1500 Tradesman is some 102 kg lighter than before, it can still tow up to 5,783 kg and carry a payload of 1,043 kg (in its four-door quad cab version).
Ride quality has been enhanced by the addition of a multi-link rear coil suspension, unique in the category – which is also lighter by some 18 kg than a leaf-spring configuration. The truck features a 3.21 rear axle ratio, 730-amp maintenance-free battery, black grille and black steel bumpers, cargo bed lamp, front and rear Frequency Response Damping (FRD) shock absorbers, locking tailgate and remote keyless entry.
Inside, latest-generation technologies abound, starting with the rearview camera, Unconnect 5.0 system with 5-inch screen, hands-free calling, auxiliary power outlet and three USB ports, 40/20/40 split bench seats and capacity for transporting six passengers.
FCA Canada has announced a starting price of just over $42,000 for the new 2019 RAM 1500 Tradesman, with dealerships taking orders immediately.
