For 2027, Honda is celebrating two milestones for its Civic Type R: the global 30th anniversary of model, and its 10th anniversary in North America. And it’s doing so by introducing significant performance, chassis and technology updates for the 2027 model year.
The revised hot hatch arrives in dealerships short on inventory but packed with targeted functional enhancements designed to improve both track capability and daily usability.

Visually, the 2027 Type R nose has been redesigned, starting with a larger grille opening to reduce airflow turbulence and improve engine cooling during sustained high-performance driving. A deeper front splitter adds downforce, while Meteorite Gray Metallic joins the exterior colour palette alongside Boost Blue Pearl, Sonic Gray Pearl and Championship White, replacing Rally Red.
Beneath the hood, a redesigned engine cover pays homage to early Japanese-market Type R models.

Speaking of beneath the hood, Honda’s turbocharged 2.0L K20C 4-cylinder engine continues to deliver a healthy 315 HP to the front wheels. Manufactured at Honda’s plant in Anna, Ohio, the powerplant is once again paired exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission. Engineers did refine the rev-matching system for quicker, smoother downshifts.
Chassis and braking dynamics also receive key updates. Honda recalibrated the adaptive dampers in the aggressive +R drive setting to limit body bounce while maintaining better tire contact with the road. To enhance braking precision, a clevis spring added to the pedal linkage reduces play for a more direct, instantaneous pedal feel.

Inside, the 2027 Civic Type R gains significant comfort and convenience upgrades. For the first time, heated front sport seats with three temperature settings come standard. The iconic red suede-like upholstery features revised perforations with black contrast stripes, while Ultrasuede now covers sections of the dashboard and upper door panels to mitigate windshield glare.
Dark grey finishes cover the aluminum shift knob, console trim and door handles, complemented by black climate control knobs.
Technology of the 2027 Honda Civic Type R
On the tech front, the Type R debuts Google built-in integration, incorporating Google Maps, Google Play and the Gemini conversational assistant alongside Amazon Alexa. New standard features include an auto-dimming rearview mirror and two centre-console USB-C ports. Honda also upgraded its Sensing driver-assistance suite, adding post-collision braking and improving motorcycle and bicycle detection for emergency braking.

Canadian pricing for the 2027 Honda Civic Type R starts at $54,850. That goes to $58,307 when including fees, representing a $1,305 increase over the outgoing 2026 model.
