Among the models being ejected are the EQE sedan and the flagship AMG and Maybach trims.

Mercedes-Benz is making cuts to its vehicle portfolio for the 2027 model-year. The automaker is axing several prominent electric and ultra-high-performance models across the Benz, AMG and Maybach lineups.

A spokesperson for the automaker confirmed that the all-electric Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG EQE sedans, the ultra-luxurious Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV and the high-output Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance plug-in hybrid will all be discontinued for 2027.

The decision is part of an ongoing pivot away from first-generation electric models that were heralded to spearhead Stuttgart’s zero-emissions future. Models like the EQE sedan and Maybach EQS SUV featured distinctive, aerodynamic "lozenge" styling and unconventional design choices, such as but not limited to a sealed hood lacking a front trunk, which required a pop-out fender flap just to add windshield washer fluid.

Mixed consumer reaction to the styling and slower sales prompted Mercedes-Benz to shift towards a more traditional, boxy aesthetic shared with its internal-combustion offerings.

The void left by the outgoing EVs will be filled by next-generation electric architecture like the MMA platform, which underpins newly introduced models such as the CLA sedan and GLB SUV, with a redesigned GLA expected in late 2027.

Indirect replacements are also taking shape, with the electric C-Class sedan and electric GLC assuming the positions previously held by the outgoing EQE variants.

Meanwhile, the departure of the $180,000-plus Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance removes a 791-hp plug-in hybrid titan from the lineup. However, there’s speculation the flagship performance sedan may return in the future powered solely by an internal-combustion setup without electric powertrain assist.

Although the larger EQS sedan and SUV remain in production for now, they are expected to undergo next-generation updates shortly. Canadian availability and specific regional trim allocations for the remaining 2027 lineup will be confirmed by Mercedes-Benz Canada in the coming months.
