Volkswagen continues the renewal of its midsize SUV lineup with the unveiling of the 2027 Atlas Cross Sport. This comes a few months after the introduction of the 2027 Atlas, also completely renewed.
2027 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport – What’s new?
Like its bigger brother, the Atlas Cross Sport arrives featuring a renewed exterior design, a thoroughly revised cabin and a more powerful 4-cylinder engine.
Originally launched in 2020, the Atlas Cross Sport continues to offer VW customers a two-row alternative to the traditional Atlas. It retains a lower and shorter silhouette than its three-row sibling, notably thanks to a more steeply sloped rear end.
Design of the 2027 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport
Volkswagen has essentially reworked all sides of the model on the outside. Up front, the model adopts stacked LED headlights, a darker upper grille and a redesigned hood. Except for the base version, two light strips and an illuminated Volkswagen emblem are also standard.
The rear portion retains the Atlas Cross Sport’s characteristic sloping profile. The taillights stretch across the full width of the vehicle and integrate three-dimensional elements.
Depending on the trim, 18-, 20-, or 21-inch wheels are offered. Three new colours are also added to the catalogue: Dark Sage Metallic, Blackberry Metallic and Ascot Grey.
Inside
Volkswagen also brings significant modifications to the cabin. The dashboard adopts a new architecture, notably incorporating soft-touch surfaces and genuine wood trim. Three interior themes are offered: Soul Black, Mistral Grey and Chestnut Brown.
Technology in the 2027 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport
The infotainment system display measures 12.9 inches in the base trim, while higher-tier versions receive a 15-inch screen. The 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro digital instrument cluster is offered as standard across the entire lineup.
A new control dial installed on the centre console allows users to manage volume, drive modes, and ambient lighting. Two phones can also be charged simultaneously thanks to a new Qi2 wireless charging pad compatible with MagSafe technology.
Enhanced drive assist tech
The 2027 Atlas Cross Sport also receives an enhanced version of the IQ.DRIVE suite. The Travel Assist system can now perform a lane change at the driver’s request, while Emergency Assist Plus can guide the vehicle to the side of the road when it detects a potential medical emergency.
Top-of-the-line trims can also be had with predictive adaptive cruise control that adjusts speed based on the navigation route, particularly in curves, roundabouts and exit ramps.
Powertrain of the 2027 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport
The new Atlas Cross Sport sticks with a 2.0L turbocharged engine, but an evolved version. Under the hood now sits evo5 version of the EA888 4-cylinder block, which notably uses a variable-geometry turbocharger.
Power reaches 282 hp, or 13 more than before, while torque stands at 258 lb-ft. Volkswagen says despite the increase in output, it anticipates an improvement in fuel consumption.
The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, and 4Motion all-wheel drive comes standard on all trims. Towing capacity remains fixed at 5,000 lb when the vehicle is equipped with the factory-installed towing package.
Volkswagen also confirms that a hybrid variant is planned for the model's mid-cycle refresh.

The 2027 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport will arrive at dealerships across Canada early next year. Canadian pricing and detailed specifications will be announced closer to its market launch.
