"New Brunswick must achieve a sustainable environment that will enable our communities to continue attracting more people, businesses and investment to be self-sufficient by 2026," declared Environment Minister Roland Haché.
"This second hybrid school bus in Canada will bring a significant reduction in green house gas emissions and help our province reach the goals of the New Brunswick Climate Change Action Plan," he added.
Education Minister Kelly Lamrock was also happy with the new purchase.
"Protecting our environment is very important to our government. I am proud to work with my colleagues on this important pilot in support of green student transportation," he said.
Fighting climate change
In June 2007, the New Brunswick government unveiled a five-year action plan to fight climate change. With the plan, the province hopes to reduce green house gas emissions by 5.5 megatons annually until 2012.
Already, many departments such as Natural Resources have replaced energy-hungry vehicles with less-polluting means of transport.
