The Canadian Automobile Dealers Association (CADA) has just launched a new public education website, AutoEmissions101.ca. The bilingual website was created to provide fact-based information on auto emissions and the role played by vehicles in the environment.

Member dealers, their employees and the general public will learn how the various actions taken by the auto industry over the last few years have had positive effects on the environment.

The site presents the facts on emissions and clarifies the misconception that the auto industry is the leading producer of greenhouse gases (GHGs). In fact, according to AutoEmissions101.ca, new vehicles sold in Canada represent only one percent of total GHGs. Visitors to the site will also learn that the auto industry has signed a voluntary agreement to reduce emissions by 5.3 megatons by 2010. Moreover, the website will educate consumers with regard to their role in "green" driving.

Through AutoEmissions101.ca, the CADA even claims that "if every other industry had acted on smog and GHGs the way the auto industry has, we would have far fewer concerns today."
