Since April 7, Londoners can admire the car "that changed the world", the Ford Model T, in the famous glass "tank" outside the Design Museum in London, facing the River Thames ND within sight of Tower Bridge.

This display of a Ford Model T by the Design Museum recognises the significance of this car in helping to turn America into an industrial economy and mobile society.

Affectionately known as the "Tin Lizzie", the Model T was launched in October 1908. In 1913, Ford started producing it on a moving assembly line. A method that dramatically reduced the time needed to produce a car, from 12 hours to 1 hour and 33 minutes!

A record braker!
After going through four successive makeovers, Henry Ford will build over 15 million Model Ts. The last one, bearing number 15,007, 033, will leave the assembly line 27 May 1927, almost twenty years after the T's introduction.

The vehicle shown by the Design Museum, a 1910 Ford Model T Runabout, was provided by the Ford Heritage Collection, which is based at the Ford Dagenham plant. The car will be on display until April 20.

Model T lovers that will not be able to go to London, will find many more opportunities this year to see some in many countries, as several centennial festivities are planned to celebrate the creation of this car.

The culminating point of those celebrations will be the "T-Party" organized by the Model T Ford Club of America, from July 21-26 in Richmond, Indiana. Close to one thousand Model Ts are expected. An event not to be missed!
