Acura has released a teaser offering a glimpse of an all-new design concept set to debut at Monterey Car Week on 14 August. The concept introduces a new design language led by Acura Creative Director Yasutake Tsuchida, which will shape the automaker’s future lineup.
The first model to get the new design language will be the fourth-generation RDX Hybrid. This teaser could simply previewing the general design approach to come for the RDX, or it could be a straight-up prototype version of the SUV.
We’ll know more about that when the concept makes its global debut in California at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, before moving to the Concept Lawn at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on August 16th.
The new image highlights a dramatic, redesigned rear lighting signature unlike anything in Acura’s current lineup. Illuminated letters spelling out the brand name span the tail panel, flanked by striking taillights that form a split X-shaped motif pointing toward the centred badge. Additional vertical light strips sit above and below the lettering, creating a distinctive nighttime presence.
As mentioned, the upcoming fourth-generation RDX Hybrid has been identified as the first production model to adopt elements of the brand’s styling direction. Expected to arrive for the 2028 model year, the next-generation RDX is arguably one of the brand's most critical upcoming releases.
The current compact luxury SUV, which competes against rivals like the BMW X3, has relied exclusively on a 2.0L turbocharged engine since its 2018 debut. The addition of a long-awaited hybrid powertrain addresses a glaring gap in Acura’s showroom.
Acura has not yet released technical specifications or an official launch timeline for the production version of the next-gen RDX, but further details are expected following next week’s presentation of the concept, whatever it is.
