Officially, thecoupe and convertible models of the new Pontiac G6 model are supposed to be asecret until 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, January 5, and you should stop by thiswebsite at that precise moment for all the details and more photos.

But thanks tosome inexplicable marketing decision at GM of Canada, pictures of the two hotnew four-seat models have been available inside the brochure for the G6 sedanfor some time. They show quite clearly that the coupe and ragtop versions ofthe new mid-size car will have unique styling cues at the front and the rear, and look pretty cool as well.

The photo alsodraws attention to one of the G6's primary charms as a two-door, four-seat car-- a 2852-mm wheelbase that allows real room in the backseat. For the most part, the rear seat space from the sedan will survive the translation into the backof both two-door models, The same should also be true of the headroom, but intruth almost no one puts adults in the back of any vehicle at all, so it's amoot point.

While they're allsupposed to be a secret until January 5, some details of the two new modelshave leaked out.

Most importantlyfor the G6 convertible model is that fact that it will come with a hardtoproof, not the traditional fabric roof. This is a big deal in terms of securityand comfort, and tends to set the G6 droptop apart from many other convertibleson the market, regardless of price.

With or withoutthe hardtop in place, the G6 convertible should always be pretty tight, sincethe architecture for this car (which is called Epsilon and was created byCanadian-born GM executive Gene Stefanyshyn) is extremely rigid and includedthe convertible in its design from the beginning.

As forpowertrain choices and other technophile issues, that will have to wait untilJanuary 5 at 12:01. At least you know now that the G6 coupe and convertiblehave passed the first critical test of such models and look way cool.
