For several months now, everything has been pointing to Alfa Romeo returning to North America around the end of 2012, after an absence of several years. Car enthusiasts have been rubbing their hands in anticipation at the thought of acquiring models like the 4C Concept in the near future. However, it seems that president and CEO Sergio Marchionne isn’t satisfied with the design of the cars that will pave the way for a successful return on Canadian and American shores.

Marchionne is concerned with the Giulia in particular, the first car to be offered on the continent, as well as the replacements of the Chrysler 200 and Dodge Avenger (sharing the same platform, engines and other major components). He reportedly rejected the proposals of the team charged with developing the models, thus postponing the introduction of the Italian brand to mid-2013.

Fiat, who is Alfa Romeo’s parent company and has a 25% stake in Chrysler, hasn’t commented on the information, leaked to Automotive News via an anonymous source.
