Yamaha’s James Stewart won his third race of the 2011 AMA Supercross season in front of a sell-out crowd at the Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California by leading the race wire to wire.

Stewart got the holeshot and rapidly began to distance himself from the rest of the field in the Class 450 main event. Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto stayed behind, never been able to mount any kind of charge while Honda’s Chad Reed finished third.

“The track was slippery tonight, but I had to ride hard and ride smart,” said Villopoto. “I’ve learned from a few mistakes I have made this year, so I am happy to finish second and move on to next weekend’s race in Houston.”

With this victory, Stewart has now extended his championship points lead to five over Villopoto.

Unfortunately, defending AMA Supercross champion Ryan Dungey did not finish tonight’s race due to a mechanical failure.
