The powertrain of the GX is comprised of a 1.8-liter, 4-cylinder engine mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission. Output is 113 horsepower and 109 lb-ft of torque. With near-zero emissions, the GX was proclaimed as the "Cleanest internal combustion engine ever tested" by the EPA when introduced in 1998, and today is the only vehicle certified by the EPA to meet both Federal Tier 2/Bin 2 and Inherently Low Emission Vehicle (ILEV) standards.
