Jean-Philippe Dayraut (BMW Serie 1) dominated the first round in Andorra, and took championship lead back.
The BMW driver was already quickest in the qualifying rounds. He took the pôle position before winning in his final heat.
With this win, Dayraut was classified forst in overall Round 1 and takes the lead in the provisional standing ahead of Alain Prost (Dacia Duster) who finished 5th.
Jacques Villeneuve struggled a bit on this first day, as he only managed to secure 16th position in qualifying rounds. The Canadian driver then took 8th and last position in his final heat, which put him 16th in overall classification for the day.
