Whether he's announcing a new model or fighting dealer associations in the U.S., Tesla CEO Elon Musk is making a lot of headlines these days. The company has a unique business model, and Musk now believes some form of dealer network could be part of the plan.
“We may need a hybrid system, with a combination of our own stores and some dealer franchises,” he acknowledged during an interview with John McElroy on Autoline Daily.
How exactly will this system play out? We don't know yet, but Musk needs to take into consideration the growing demand for Tesla cars, especially with the addition of the Model X crossover and Model 3 compact sedan in the next few years.
In fact, sources who spoke with TheDetroitBureau.com suggested Tesla might wait until closer to the launch of the Model 3 (around 2017). At that point sales will be stronger, and Tesla will be able to bring the price of its battery technology down to a starting point as low as $30,000 USD.
