Just What is an SUT Anyway?

This year's National Automotive Dealers Association conference (NADA) has been the stage for more than one new vehicle announcement. The latest will have SUV enthusiasts foaming at the mouth.

On Monday, February 3, General Motors announced that it will add a second body style to its Hummer H2 line. The sport utility truck (SUT), introduced at the 2001 New York auto show, will finally make it into dealer showrooms in 2004 as a 2005 model.

Arnold Schwarznegger will no doubt have his personal example on order already. After all, he was at the wheel to launch the concept in Times Square, with New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani in the passenger seat.

The current H2, the basis for the new H2 SUT, is a much easier vehicle to drive everyday than the massive H1, and costs approximately half the price. Both H2 models are based on GM's full-size SUV architecture, but still offer commendable off-road prowess along with a luxurious interior.
