Delighted spectators
Uncertain weather did not scare people off. While Ogden is a long drive from major cities, hundreds of visitors attended the expo. "On Sunday, our parking lots were full with members of car clubs," recalls Mr. Raymond. The Luigi Ferrari Club and the VEA were both represented and they put on quite a show all by themselves. There were also four lovely little Fiat 500s. I think the biggest surprise, though, was seeing visitors come in with their own vintage cars."

Here's the mystifying BMW Isetta... also known as the "rolling egg"!

One of them, Roger Allard, brought the first-ever production Allard J2X to the event. According to Mr. Raymond, this car became a fan magnet as soon as it arrived on site.

Honoring Paul Deutschman
Organizers took this opportunity to pay tribute to a world-renowned Canadian auto designer: Paul Deutschman. As an honorary guest, Mr. Deutschman teamed up with Reeves Callaway to unveil the new Callaway C16 Speedster.

A number of Callaways were on hand as well as other creations from the Montreal native, like a Porsche Spexster, a Campagna T-Rex and a little 1985 Spex Elf, the very first masterpiece in Deutschman's illustrious career.

Art and the Automobile was a perfect venue to showcase the genius of Mr. Deutschman, who plans on developing a design center in the Quebec metropolis. "Located roughly halfway between Europe and California, geographically and culturally, Montreal affords a unique 'global' perspective," he says. "Thanks to the Internet, design data can be sent around the world instantly, minimizing the impact of physical distance."

Rumor has it that a major automaker has already shown interest in the project of a new design center in Montreal. Negotiations with Mr. Deutschman are reportedly underway.

The Callaway C16 Speedster made its Canadian debut during the event.
