President Ben Johnston went to the Autosport Show in Birmingham, England, this week to meet with European drivers and their managers and invite them to a special test exclusively for them in February.

“I had two days of meetings lined up with drivers and managers,” President Ben Johnston said in an official communiqué.

“As a result of demand we have organized a two day test in Mid-February in Florida, exclusively for European drivers, who will get a great deal of seat time in the car and will also have the chance to meet all the team owners.

“We expect a strong driver showing from Europe on the grid in 2010, which will make this a tight and competitive season for racing.”

The reason why the interest for the series is so high in Europe is due to economical challenges. The Euro and Pound being stronger than the American dollar, it makes the US an interesting venue for young drivers willing to make a career in sports car.

Simona De Silvestro and Simon Pagenaud are two recent examples of European drivers that build their way to higher series by coming to the Atlantic Championship with the first one testing an IRL car and the second one racing in American Le Mans series.
