Despite the numerous automakers that have dropped out of the Detroit Auto Show, others, like Audi, are promising new models that will be the envy of the other shows. On top of the unveiling of the R8 V10, Audi will present an all-new concept in the tradition of the Mercedes-Benz CLS, the four-door A7 Coupe.

According to Audi, the production version will feature the same fluid lines as the concept. The front end is relatively similar to that of the A5 Coupe, while the roof line is lower for a cut-off effect and the trunk is very short.

On the power front, Audi is offering several engines for the various markets where the car will be available. The selection of engines varies from a 2.8-litre, 204-hp mill to a 600-hp RS V10 twin-turbo affair, with a 3.0-litre, 300-hp, supercharged V6 and a 4.2-litre, nearly 400-hp V8 thrown into the mix. What's more, a hybrid version could be joining the ranks in a few years.

Like the brand's other models, three transmissions will be available: a six-speed manual version, a seven-speed, dual-clutch, S tronic version and a seven-speed automatic version.

Production is scheduled to begin at the end of 2009 for a 2010 model. Audi hasn't confirmed a price range at the moment, but the automaker is hinting that the A7 could well become, in its RS incarnation, the most powerful and expensive model of the lineup.
