Despite a long and rich tradition based on the acclaimed quattro all-wheel drive technology, Audi is just scratching the surface when it comes to SUVs and crossovers. After introducing the Q7 in 2005 and the Q5 for 2009, the brand has recently started building the smaller Q3 and, according to Automobile Magazine, the onslaught is merely beginning.
You've probably heard the rumours about a potential Audi Q6 that would directly rival the BMW X6. Now, it appears that another crossover called Q1 – based on the same platform as the A1 hatchback, the new A2 and the next-generation A3 – will land in showrooms in 2013.
But wait, there's more. A performance-oriented, three-door Audi Q4 similar to the upcoming Porsche Cajun may also hit the market in the not-so-distant future.
Clearly, the German company has a thing for crossovers. Would such a wide array of models hurt Audi or give it a significant edge over top competitors like Infiniti, Lexus and BMW?
