The e-tron quattro concept will impress

Less than a week ago, we reported to you on Audi joint venture with LG Chem and Samsung SDI where the latter will be tasked with developing a powerful battery for a future Audi product.

Today, Audi confirms that the SUV, at least in concept form, will be revealed at this upcoming Frankfurt Auto Show in September. Known as the Audi e-tron quattro concept, this crossover will in fact launch a whole new series of large electric vehicle from Audi.

The concept, sized between that of the current Q5 and Q7, will be capable of travelling more than 310 miles (500 km) between charges thanks to its large lithium-ion battery located between the front and rear axles, below the passenger compartment. As always, the location of the battery pack will aid in handling and in overall structural integrity.

The “electrified quattro” AWD system will consist of a single electric engine up front and two in the rear. This setup will ensure rapid acceleration and dynamic driving characteristics.

Styling-wise, the e-tron quattro concept displays a very contemporary coupe-like profile that is likely to go over quite well with media and the public alike.

Audi has already planned for the production model to be made available for purchase by 2018.
