There was a sure way to make the Audi A5 and S5 even more enjoyable to drive- and that was to take off their tops. Audi has just announced that the A5 product line will be expanded to include Cabriolet models with three powerful engines and groundbreaking top technology for owners to enjoy.

The engine lineup will consist of a two-liter turbocharged four cylinder, a 3.2 liter V6, or a supercharged 3.0 liter V6 in the high powered 'S' badged variant. Horsepower will range between 211 and 354 when the models go on sale. Note that the S5 will continue to use a V8 engine until the end of the 2010 model year, at which point it will be replaced with the new supercharged V6.

An 'Audi Drive Select' system will allow for customized engine, suspension and throttle mapping- similar to the DriveLogic controller in BMW's M3. An optional quattroSport rear diff will be available to help enhance agility as well.

Drop-top models are set apart by new LED lighting in the rear, unique interior colors and a cloth acoustic roof. The S5 variant gets various aluminum bits for more character as well.

The drop-top A5 lineup will debut at Geneva in March, with a planned on-sale date later in 2009. Pricing will be announced closer to market launch.
