Audi will present a 1:2 scale version of the 1936 Auto Union Type C Grand Prix car that served as inspiration for their new e-tron concept study at the International Toy Fair in Nuremberg, Germany (February 3-8, 2011).
Completely re-engineered to incorporate an electric motor and lithium-ion battery assembly, this rear-wheel drive machine produces 1.48 horsepower and 44.25 lb-ft of torque. It can reach a top speed of about 30 km/h and offers a range of 24 kilometres with a full charge that takes two hours via a 230-volt power outlet.
The retro-looking e-tron may be light-years away from the Tesla Model S in terms of performance, but Audi deserves much praise and admiration for getting today's young car enthusiasts acquainted with a classic from the past.
