Auto safety kit

This is the kind of gift that would be appreciated by a parent or friend. In both cases, with advancing age comes a heightened awareness of safety questions. We looked at two different safety kits for vehicles. This is one of those things you’ll be so relieved to have sitting in the trunk when you get a flat tire, run out of gas or are faced with another situation that results in you being stopped on the side of the road… particularly in wintertime. We’ve all seen those incidents where motorists are stuck on roads during snow storms. In these situations a safety kit becomes a real essential!

If you have children, a spouse or parents who are often on the road for their work or need to travel frequently in their vehicle, put this kit at the top of your shopping list. It’s also recommended for people who ride snowmobiles or ATVs into the back country.

Of course, there are smaller-scale kits available that contain the items best suited to your vehicle and activity of choice. Keep in mind as well that you can also add items to your safety kit to suit your needs and/or activities.

The larger auto safety kit contains the following items:

- A pair of wool gloves
- A snow brush/scraper
- A fleece blanket
- An emergency raincoat
- A first aid kit that includes:
           - A car with instructions for administering emergency first aid
           - Adhesive plasters
           - Absorbent pads
           - Disinfectant wipes
           - Compresses
           - Adhesive tape
- A small pack of useful tools, including:
          - Stainless steel pliers
          - LED flashlight with batteries
          - A double-tipped screwdriver
          - A tire pressure gauge
- An air compressor
- A 14-foot tow strap that can pull up to 4,500 lbs
- A roll of duct tape
- A collapsible shovel
- Cable brackets
- A reflective triangle to place in the vehicle’s window
- 10-calibre starter cables (8 feet long)
