''Selecting a recommended installer in the U.S. (there are 3,200) is an option for anyone placing an order on-line no matter where they live,'' says Edmonds. ''This provides the consumer access to the most complete list of installers for tires, wheels, suspension components and brakes and is in no way is meant to relieve the consumer from their legal obligation for all required duties and taxes.''

By that Edmonds means that anyone who gets new Avon tires in the U.S. is required to declare to Canadian customs officers when they return to Canada.

Edmonds resolutely declined to even speculate about prices for the Avon line of tires, claiming that the final decision had not been made. But they're premium specialty products and so won't be cheap.

Michael Joines of Tire Rack says they'll be worth it, because they've been created to meet customer demands on the strength of customer experience. ''We believe that experience is the best teacher,'' he says, ''and with 562 tire models tested almost two billion kms of real world driving, the customer is the absolute expert when it comes to their needs and desires -- in their next set of tires.''

Avon Tyres began in 1885 and has been supplying tires to Rolls-Royce since 1933. The motorsports activity began with motorcycle racing in 1957, and was extended to include cars in 1982.

We could list the events and series that Avon plays in, but it's unlikely that anyone who's the slightest bit excited about the notion of buying Avon Tyres doesn't already have some knowledge of that.
