Italian design house Bertone is shedding new light on the B 99 concept. Designed with maximum interior room in mind, it may very well hint at Jaguar's future entry-level sedan.
Roughly the same length as a BMW 3-Series or Mercedes-Benz C-Class at about 4.5 metres, the B 99 rides on a longer wheelbase than the 2.91 metres of the Jaguar XF.
The goal was to create a compact sedan that could offer the roominess of a much larger vehicle. Since accessibility is a big priority here, the B 99 has no B-pillars and features rear-hinged rear doors.
The car uses a full hybrid powertrain created by Bertone Energy. No technical specifications have been provided, however.
Chief designer Mike Robinson said the B 99 was made by Bertone in agreement with Jaguar as a view to a possible replacement for the X-Type that was discontinued in 2009. The luxury brand plans to launch an entry-level sedan in 2013-2014 to boost sales.
