Clean diesel fuel is now available at a pump near you- and automakers have been working to bring advanced diesel technology to our shores to offer customers enhanced fuel efficiency and reduced emissions.
BMW has just announced they the first of their new diesel offerings in our market will be on sale soon. The German luxury carmaker has announced that two models- the 335d and X5 xDrive35d models will introduce BMW's Advanced "Blue Performance" Diesel technology.
Power for both machines will come from a 3.0 litre twin-turbo inline six cylinder accompanied by Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) combustion management with urea injection. The latter technology periodically injects a chemical into the vehicle's exhaust to initiate a pollution-reducing chemical reaction.
This specialized powerplant has already won International Engine of the Year numerous times. Power is rated at 265 horsepower and a stout 425 lb.-ft of torque that's ready to go by under 1,800 RPM. These numbers endow the machines with sporty acceleration and a new level of efficiency, BMW says. Initial ratings suggest fuel savings in the area of 30% in the diesel 335, and about 23% in the diesel X5.
The two new clean and cutting edge diesel vehicles will join BMW's lineup this coming fall.
