BMW Management Chairman Dr. Norbert Reithofer recently made a statement about the international financial crisis and how it relates to BMW group's operations.
"The international financial crisis has gained further momentum in the third quarter, and has now hit the real economy with full force" he said- before stressing that BMW is prepared to meet economic challenges and that they remain a strong performer with a solid foundation that will help to 'weather the storm'.
Reithofer highlighted several new technologies and drive concepts that BMW group is offering. For instance, 2009 will see the BMW 7-Series Hybrid and X6 Hybrid models reach maturity. Also, the initial batch of 500 electric-powered "MINI Es" will be delivered to the US market. A "Mega City Car" is in the works with either an all-electric or high-efficiency gasoline engine as well.
These fuel saving technologies come amidst the group's suggestion to European governments to define realistic carbon requirements and carbon-based motor taxes to help calm the market and strengthen customer confidence.
In addition, Reithofer says the X6 is exceeding all expectations in sales, proving the company's success in creating its own market segment.
Ultimately, BMW Group remains confident that they'll be able to meet long-term targets set out for 2010 and 2012- though no sales growth is forecast for the next year.
