Will the BMW i3 be able to offer a range of 420 kilometres by the time its 2018 edition rolls around? According to a report in German newspaper Welt am Sonntag, the carmaker has made just such a promise. Equipped with BMW’s REx range extender, the maximum distance the BMW i3 can cover on a single charge will climb from 300 to over 400 kilometres.
Long deemed to be an important impediment to the growth of the electric-vehicle market, the limited range offered by such vehicles may soon be a problem of the past. The looming debuts of several models able to offer a range that approaches those of gasoline-engine vehicles should provide a boost in gradually growing that market segment.
