Autoweek reports that BMW plans to launch the M235i Coupe in the US as a replacement for the 1 Series M Coupe, whose production ended recently.
Based on the second-generation 2 Series, which will make its debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show, the new performance model will feature the same 316-hp version of BMW's N55 3.0L inline six-cylinder turbocharged engine as the M135i hatchback. The latter is set to go on sale across Europe in September.
The BMW M235i will most likely appear at the 2014 NAIAS in Detroit ahead of its mid-year release. A convertible variant should follow later in 2014.
Pricing and Canadian availability remain unknown.
