BMW's CEO, Norbert Reithofer, has confirmed that the manufacturer is designing a small, fuel-efficient vehicle intended for urban areas.

BMW Isetta

According to Reithofer, two engines will be available: a very frugal combustion engine and an electric mill. Both will meet American and European emissions and fuel consumption standards.

In order to meet California's 2012 standards, the electric version of the engine will have an operating range of over 200 km.

To commercialize the vehicle, BMW is considering creating a new brand reserved for green vehicles, and isn't excluding the possibility of reviving the Isetta brand.
