If you thought single-seat cars were exclusive to motorsports, you were wrong! Briggs Automotive Company (BAC), a new car manufacturer from the U.K., recently launched the Mono as a road-legal, track-oriented racer.
Performance comes from a Cosworth-sourced, 2.3-litre engine producing 280 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque. The rear-wheel drive Mono also uses a 6-speed sequential gearbox.
Now for the really cool specs: ultra-lightweight materials keep the supercar at 540 kilos, which translates to a 0-60mph sprint time of just 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 170 mph (273 km/h). Impressive!
Handling is enhanced by a fully-adjustable push-rod suspension (as seen on Formula 1 cars and the new Lamborghini Aventador) and 295-mm ventilated brake discs.
The Mono is currently available for the UK market only, but BAC is working on selling it overseas towards the end of 2012. Different emissions regulations mean that revisions will have to be made to the current engine.
Director Neill Briggs, a former engineering manager of the original Ford Focus RS, said that Ariel Atom customers have already contacted BAC about it.
Pricing is set at £66,625.
