In the meantime, Cadillac's expected to put a V10 or a V12 into its Escalade luxury lineup by 2005 as a 2006 model.
Cadillac is currently testing a few engines -- including a version of the V16 from the Sixteen concept car -- to see which works best. When it does go into production, it will come bearing the ''V'' designation that Caddy uses to distinguish its performance models from its regular models.
Most likely, the Escalade V model will use the Northstar-based XV12, since it will fit in the space currently occupied by the 6-litre V8.
Whatever engine it is, it will likely come from a new factory that GM is erecting in the Detroit area to build small-volume, high-output engines for all of its divisions' performance lines.
