While the launch of the new Cadillac ATS is drawing ever closer, we learned today that the automaker has decided to drop the convertible variant.
A source anonymously revealed that the sales projections were too low to justify investing in the product’s development.
That means that when the ATS hits dealerships in 2012 only a sedan version will be available. It will be followed by a coupe a few months later.
Buyers will have the choice between a 2.0-litre, turbocharged 4-pot and a 3.6-litre V6, mated to a 6-speed autobox with available all-wheel drive.
GM’s decision caused a bit of a stir among industry analysts, who are wondering about the future of the Ciel concept, which, according to the latest information, is also slated for production.
Some believe chucking the ATS convertible will give the vehicle the room it needs, while the more pessimistic don’t think Cadillac will be introducing such a product in the near future.
