All Three Canadian CART Drivers in Top 10

Some get giddy when the first pitch is thrown, others cheer when the ref drops the first puck, but Canadian motorsport fans get fully charged when the big leagues of the racing car world come to town. Every summer the festivities begin with the Montreal Grand Prix, starting next weekend.

Canada's Jacques Villeneuve, one of only two previous world championship holders currently racing in the Formula 1 series, is having a troubling season with a very unreliable BAR 005. His teammate Jenson Button, other than his debilitating shunt in a Monaco practice run, is having all the luck. (Photo: PlanetF1.com)

The high-tech trucks will be rolling through town shortly carrying their precious F1 cargo, on their way to the most exclusive paddock in open wheel racing - or any racing for that matter. News media and fans alike will be scrambling to get a glimpse of the sport's ultimate stars, such as Michael Schumacher, Juan Pablo Montoya and our own Jacques Villeneuve.

The 2003 season has already proven to be much more entertaining than last year's championship run, what seemed hardly more than a parade with the elder Schumacher brother on lead baton. While a bevy of new rules have stirred the pot, exciting newcomers such as Fernando Alonso, Mark Webber and Kimi Raikkonen, the current championship leader, are showing that the best young talent rises to the top of motorsport, guiding their much more competitive Renault, Jaguar and Mercedes-McLaren teams to victory, or at least points winning finishes in Jaguar's case.

This coming week will be one of Canada's biggest parties, leave it to fun-loving Montreal to play host. But lucky locals won't need to mourn when the F1 circus pulls up its tents and leaves town, as the equally exciting Champ Car World Series will be back for its second year on the August 24th weekend.
