The auto industry is off to a surprisingly strong start this year, with a 9.6% increase in sales from the same period a year ago, DesRosiers Automotive reports. Last month, 108,553 Canadians bought a new vehicle, which is more than the 99,051 in January 2015.
New Brunswick and Ontario posted the biggest increases at 22.5% and 18.8%, respectively. Meanwhile, sales dropped 10.5% in Alberta and 6.3% in Saskatchewan.
The best-selling cars in January 2016 were the Honda Civic (3,708), Toyota Corolla (2,174), and Hyundai Elantra (2,093). As for trucks, the Ford F-Series (8,838), Ram (6,884), and GMC Sierra (3,352) led the way.
