With the Cherokee, the iconic American automaker successfully proved that you didn’t need an oversized brute of a 4X4 to tear off the paved road when you wanted to. Plus in this thing you were still comfortable when driving in the city. To this day, the XJ generation of the 4X4 model is prized by fans on the used-vehicle market.

1986 Ford Taurus

The Ford Taurus is no longer with us today, but its impact on the industry and on design in general is still recognized. At the tail end of the 1980s, the Taurus looked like no other car on the road. During that relatively obscure era in automotive history, that was quite a feat.
