The Car Heaven program was developed in 2000 to encourage Canadians to retire their old, higher polluting vehicles. This program was also created to ensure that all these vehicles are recycled in the most environmentally responsible manner possible.

Back in May of 2005, GM Canada partnered with the Clean Air Foundation to offer qualified Car Heaven donors a cool $1,000 applicable towards the purchase of a brand new GM product.

Last year alone, over 16,000 old clunkers were donated, disposed of and replaced with a spanking new GM vehicle. From an environmental point of view, the country and the planet saved itself from the emissions that are the equivalent of more than 320,000 new vehicles which are equipped with new advanced emission technologies.

In that same year, the Car Heaven program halted the release of a staggering 8,710 tons of carbon monoxide, 2,105 tons of smog-forming emissions and 26,910 tons of greenhouse gas emissions.

The Canadian Environment Awards are part of the Celebration of Community Achievement national program. It recognizes individuals and groups of Canadians who participate in making outstanding contributions for the protection, restoration and preservation of the Canadian environment.

The Gold Award for Climate Change from the Canadian Environmental Awards was recently awarded to the Clean Air Foundation.
