Two examples of direct-injection technology really impress. Audi and Mazda both utilize turbochargers and direct-injection technology to create plenty of power from small, four cylinder engines. Audi's 2.0 litre turbocharged engine generates over 200 lb. ft. of torque, while Mazda's 2.3 litre turbo mill creates nearly 275 horsepower. Both engines are versatile and achieve reasonable fuel consumption figures despite their output. Most impressive is their fat, wide torque curves which are available from very low RPM's.
