Where the Camaro was discontinued due to what industry analysts of the time considered a lack of consumer interest in the sports coupe segment of the market, the SSR should do well as it offers a versatile pickup truck box and an impressive retractable hardtop.
When the 87th running of the Indy 500 takes place on May 25th, executive director of GM Racing, Herb Fishel will be behind the wheel of one of the two SSRs to be specially prepped for the event.

What kind of special preparations have been made? Each car's hood, front fenders and doors have been painted with silver flames, while polished stock cast alloy wheels and racing-type safety harnesses have been installed. A safety strobe has been added to the tailgate and the appropriate event graphics adorn the sheetmetal.
No doubt GM will offer a special edition Indy 500 pace car to its customers as part of the low-volume truck's 15,000 expected units per year. The SSR will be in dealership showrooms shortly after the event this summer.
