That's exactly what Bernhard is talking about when he says, "Things are taking off at this point in time."

What new vehicles is the ex-COO referring too? Getting the most press has been Chrysler's rear-wheel and optional all-wheel drive 300 sedan, a true premium level vehicle, the top-most version of which gets the most powerfully-tuned modern-day 5.7-L HEMI to reach the market - 340 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque.

Dodge gets a version too, but rather than a conventional 4-door sedan it's a functional sport wagon that has made quite a stir among enthusiasts on the auto show circuit. While featuring the same Mercedes E Class-derived undercarriage, 5-speed transmission and steering system as the 300, the Magnum does it all for a base price of $27,995, with the HEMI powered R/T starting at a mere $36,995.

A new Dakota is on the way, which should be a big seller and help Dodge's bottom line. (Photo: Trevor Hofmann, Canadian Auto Press)

What else will show up soon? Dodge has a new Dakota on its way, a volume seller that is sure to fill the Ram brand's coffers. The Dakota looks smart with angular fender flares, wraparound headlamp clusters and taillights similar in appearance to the new Durango, inspired by the double-bubble lenses featured on the current Jeep Liberty. Inside it's an improvement over the outgoing Dakota, especially at dash central with better integrated audio and HVAC controls on an upscale interface. Rear seat legroom is up, while black-color hollow headrests offer protection to rear passengers and better visibility for the driver. The new truck is expected in September 2004.
