In today's highly competitive global automotive industry, everyone's goods are for sale- and teaming up for joint partnerships is becoming more and more common. Nissan, for instance, is building a pickup-truck for Suzuki. Chrysler has recently teamed up with BMW and General Motors to create a hybrid drive system for large trucks, too.

The latest co-operation making industry news is between Chrysler and Nissan. The companies announced yesterday agreements for the supply of products between them.

Nissan will supply Chrysler with a Versa-based small car to be sold in limited volume in South America, as well as a Chrysler designed small-car that will be sold in Europe and North America in 2010. The latter vehicle will be built at Nissan's Oppama Plant in Japan.

On the other side of the coin, Chrysler will manufacture a full-sized pickup for Nissan, based on a Nissan-unique design. It will be built at the American automaker's Saltillo (Mexico) truck plant, with production capacity cleared by shifting volume from Mexico to U.S. based assembly plants. Sales of this truck will start in 2011.

"Forging the right tactical partnerships is critical to the long-term success of Chrysler," said Tom LaSorda, Chrysler LLC President and Vice Chairman. "It also builds on the Company's inherent strengths, including the ability to respond rapidly and creatively to emerging opportunities."
