They say it's the biggest advancement in car audio since the CD player. It's called MyGig, and its Chrysler groups effort to appeal to the mobile audio and entertainment enthusiasts who want more than your average in-dash six-pack. As customers demand more and more of their machines, the MyGig system works to combine many common non-driving functions into a single interface.

What was once the realm of technology magazines and sci-fi television is now coming to a Chrysler centre stack near you. Traffic updates, navigation, voice command, a hard drive and the ability to rip music from a CD are only the beginning.

An advanced voice dialogue system understands over 100,000 words, allowing drivers to command the unit by simply talking to it, inputting navigation data for instance. The MyGig interface is also a touch screen, so no matter the drivers preference, data entry is simple.

A USB 2.0 port allows digital photographs to be loaded into the display, while a 20 gigabyte hard drive is used to store music, pictures and mapping info.

Gracenote music file management software is also included and automatically assigns artist, song title and album data to music files- useful considering the thousands of songs the system is capable of storing.

The optional MyGig system will be available in the Jeep Compass, Dodge Nitro and Chrysler Sebring later this year.
