Yeah, I'm guilty.

For nearly two years, I've been cutting through a company's parking lot to avoid going through an intersection light nearly 200 metres out of my way and getting stuck behind a long, stupid line of cars trying to get onto the highway.

I'm not special. My time is no more precious than anyone else's, and so I should wait in line like everyone else. I can't. It kills me. Like everyone else...Whether I've got a 106hp Toyota Yaris or a 530hp Porsche 911 Turbo S, I don't do well waiting idly by.

I found this shortcut years ago, and only began using it when I returned to Auto123.com. For the better part of 20 months, 2 or 3 times a week, I got by and never came across a copper. Life was good.

That was, until I drove through a little while back and awoke a lone officer probably snoozing in his cruiser. There he was, earning an average $66,577 a year (way back in 2008) sitting in his car on a stakeout... They call this upholding the law.

I got pulled over, got a ticket in the amount of $156, and decided never to go back that way again. The cop did his job, but I wonder if this is the type of police work he thought he was going to do while studying for 3 1/2 years to become a police officer.

My point is that we should have rent-a-cops for this sort of work, pay them accordingly and lower fines for these types of banal infractions. We should also have real officers for real police work, and hand out more severe punishments for DUIs and sexual deviants.

I'm pissed because I got caught, but I think I'm being reasonable. Thoughts?
