Pat Richard and Alan Ockwell won another Canadian Rally Championship title this weekend in Bancroft Ontario. Quebeckers Antoine L'Estage and Nathalie Richard, in counterparts, were beaten a second time, victims of their failing mechanics.

Both teams were head-to-head all weekend long, specials after specials until the ultimate one, when a mechanical problem made L’Estage and Richard lose a whole three minutes, and the necessary second place they needed to be crowned champions.

Andrew Comrie-Picard and co-driver Jeremy Wimpey (Mitsubishi) took the most wanted second place finish behind incontestable winners Richard and Ockwell (Subaru).

The victory also meant a championship title for Subaru in front of Mitsubishi. The third place finish went to brothers Frank and Dan Sprongl that raced for the first time since 2006 on their Impreza WRX Sti of Team Subaru Canada.

Of the 51 teams on the starting grip, only twenty completed this rally.

Michael Hordijk and Jessie Amend took the Group 5 victory on their VW Gold TDI as Peter Kocandrle and Jimmy Brandt took the four-power-wheel victory.

2009 champions are: Pat Richard and Alan Ockwell in Open Class, Hardy Schmidtke and Adam Vokes in Production GT, Neil and Lorna Wright in Production Sport, Nathalie Richard in Lady’s Cup and Nick Mathew in Rookie Cup.

On the manufacturers’ side, Subaru takes the overall championship title in Open and Production GT Class; Mitsubishi takes the two-power-wheel and Group 2 titles; Mazda takes the Production Sport title.
