Carlos Sainz managed to win the last stage of the 2011 Rally-RAID Dakar, which was not enough for him to recover from a broken suspension that put him more than an hour behind, several days ago.

Sainz had to concede victory to his teammate Nasser Al-Attiyah and second place also to Volkwagen teammate, Giniel De Villiers.

It was a first overall victory in the rally for Al-Attiyah. He won 49 minutes ahead of De Villers and 1h20 ahead of Sainz for what was a 100 percent Volkwagen podium. The brand completed the rally with 12 out of 13 possible stages wins.
