The Mini Dakar Team has been forced to retire of the 2011 edition after Guerlain Chicherit crashed in testing during Saturday's rest day.
The Mini was back in ninth place overall by the end of Friday, in Arica, the sixth stage of the popular Dakar raid event.
Chicherit not only heavily damaged the car in the crash but also sustained head injury, which obliged him to visit the medial centre of the event.
"Guerlain is not seriously injured, but the car somersaulted once or twice. We don't have time to repair it and, even if we did, we don't have all the parts we need," said team boss Sven Quandt.
