According to a number of scientists, there appears to be a correlation between skipping forward an hour in late winter and the number of road accidents in Canada, the US and other countries in the World.

What they have found is that, on the Monday following the forward movement of the clocks, the number of traffic accidents in the US jumps significantly from the preceding Sunday or from a “regular” Monday. The findings were published in the journal Sleep Medicine in 2001.

In Canada, the increase was numbered at 8% according to a 1996 study in the New England Journal. In Sweden, the spike was found to be of 11% and this, according to a study in the journal Accident Analysis & Prevention, published in 2000.

Is it just me or is all this really stupid and unnecessary? On the Sunday before the “Spring Forward”, I just go to bed 30 minutes or an hour earlier to make up for the loss in shut-eye time. Can't fall asleep? Read a book! Otherwise, you might end up DEAD!
