De Niro and the e-Niro, a match that had to happen. Kia has announced that actor Robert De Niro will be the European-market public face for the new e-Niro electric vehicle.
The official advertising campaign for the all-electric version of the crossover has thus just been launched with the Oscar-winning actor serving as e-Niro ambassador. The model is debuting this week at the 2018 Paris Motor Show, and will be available to European consumers by the end of 2018.
The Kia e-Niro has an official range of up to 485 km, and will come with a wide range of energy-recovery technologies as well as advanced infotainment systems. It has a long-range, high-capacity 64 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery, as well as a 39.2 kWh power pack, which offers drivers up to 312 km of zero-emissions driving on a full charge. Plugged into a 100 kW fast charger, it takes only 54 minutes to recharge the e-Niro’s 64 kWh battery to 80%.
First introduced in 2016, the Niro is already available in hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions. In Canada only the straight hybrid version is available, and it’s unlikely the new e-Niro will make it to our market, at least in the short term. Which means we won’t be seeing the face of Robert De Niro plugging the all-electric crossover over here any time soon.
